We take publicly published departure schedules and estimate how many people are likely to be in a terminal at a given time, then compare that with how that airport usually is. The result is shown as a relative level — quiet through to peak — rather than a waiting time in minutes.
Where we show delay statistics, those are calculated from recorded departure times for flights that have already operated. They describe what has happened in the past. They are not a prediction of your flight.
The arrival calculator produces a suggestion from an estimate. It is a starting point for your own planning, not a deadline you can rely on.
Your airline's stated check-in, bag-drop and boarding deadlines are the only times that matter. Always follow those, and allow extra time on top for travel, parking and the unexpected.
